Tell GA Political Leaders To Support an Environmental Impact Statement for the Proposed Elba LNG Export Project
Dear U.S. Representative Buddy Carter; Georgia Senators Lester Jackson and Ben Watson; Georgia Representatives Bob Bryant, Craig Gordon, Jesse Petrea, Mickey Stephens and Ron Stephens; the Chatham County Board of Commissioners and the Mayor and City Council of Savannah:
Houston-based Kinder Morgan is proposing a $2 billion industrial project to transform a dormant LNG (liquefied natural gas) import facility into a massive LNG export complex. If this project moves forward, Savannah residents and businesses will be forced to accept serious risks to their health, safety, property and environment. Additionally, exporting LNG will increase domestic natural gas prices and increase global greenhouse gas emissions, which will worsen sea level rise, flooding and erosion.
At this point, the federal government has provided no assurance that a customary and comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be required. We the undersigned are requesting that our elected representatives in state and local government insist that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) conduct a complete and objective EIS.
